Catalog Help

Welcome to Sterling College’s Academic Catalog, an online searchable database of courses offered at Sterling College. The Course Search bar enables you to search for or browse through courses, and save them to your Portfolio. This online portfolio of selected courses is a convenient way for you to plan and organize your program of study and for your advisor to review and approve your selections. You can think of it as a shopping cart for classes you are interested in or would like to discuss with an advisor or admissions councilor.

Searching Courses

You can instantly search the database by course number, course title, or course description. Searching the database is easy — just type what you are looking for into the search bar and ranked results will start appearing automatically — no need to hit enter! To refine or perform a new search just type over or add to the previous query. Once the search results have been displayed, you can click on a course title to make it expand into a course description; to hide the course description, click on the course title again. When you decide which courses you would like to select for your program of study, click on the link titled “Add” at the end of the respective course, and it will be added to your portfolio.

Browsing Courses

As an alternative to searching for a course, you can browse the catalog in a more traditional list format by clicking on the link titled “Browse Courses by Discipline”. As with the search results, you can expand/collapse course descriptions by clicking on the titles and add courses to your online portfolio simply by clicking on the link titled “Add”.

Login & Accounts

If this is your first time using the catalog, you will need to create an account. Having an account will enable you to save your course selections into your portfolio. If you already have an account, you will need to enter your username and password to log into your portfolio. You can later share this login information with your advisor or admissions councilor so they can see what courses you are interested in or have specific questions about.

Your Portfolio

Assuming you have logged in and have added classes to your portfolio, you can view them by clicking on the link titled “View my portfolio”. On the portfolio page you can delete any of your previous selections and order your selections to your liking by dragging course titles up and down. You can view course descriptions by clicking on the “arrow-and-document” icon for the respective course. You can also print your course selections (with or without descriptions) by clicking on the print button in the top right-hand corner of the portfolio page; alternatively, you may choose to save them to your computer in .pdf or .rtf formats readable by Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Word, respectively. If you want the full course descriptions to be included with your printout put a check in the box titled “with description” next to the print button.

Saving & Logout

When you are done working with your portfolio, be sure to save it by clicking on the “Save your changes!” button located in the top left-hand corner on the portfolio page. We recommend that you log out of your account when you are finished to prevent others from inadvertently using your account; you can log back into your online portfolio with your username and password from any computer. The log-out and log-in buttons are located in the top right-hand corner of the page.
